The Egyptian Art Academy has nominated Kamal Al Tawil to receive a State Appreciation Award for Music, according to the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.
Tawil composed the scores for several important Egyptian films, including Al Masir (Destiny) by Yousef Shahin.
The creative musician, who has composed dozens of romantic and patriotic songs, was the first to introduce the late singer Abdel Halim Hafez in early 1950s. Hafez sang his song Liqaa (Meeting), written by Salah Abdel Sabour and composed by Tawil, in his radio debut.
Tawil also composed famous songs including Wallah Zaman Ya Silahi by Umm Kulthum; Naa’m Ya Habibi (Yes Love) by Hafez; Ashar Wanshigel Ana (I Stay Awake and Become Busy) by Najat; Al Nar Al Aidah (Glowing Fire) by Fayzeh Ahmed; Bukrah Ya Habibi (Tomorrow Love) by Wardah; Rihlet Al Umr (Life Journey) by Shadia; and Al Nas Al Mughramin (Loving People) by Abdel Muttaleb.
