Egyptian musician Jamal Salameh has filed a complaint against Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi.
Salameh accused Haifa of stealing the rhythm of the song “Masir Ya Awal Noor Fe Al Donia Shaq Thalam Al Lail” (Egypt you are the first to in the world to be a light through darkness) that he composed, demanding that the singer is banned from performing in Egypt until the case is settled.
According to the London daily Elaph, the song, “Masir Ya Awal Noor Fe Al Donia Shaq Thalam Al Lail”, was written by Abed Al Rahman Al Abnodi and sung by Muhmmad Tharwat several years ago.
Haifa then created her version “Ana Haifa Ana” (I Am Haifa). Salameh claims that she never asked for permission.
Haifa’s legal representative said the matter is being investigated.
The composer of Haifa’s song “Ana Haifa Ana,” Jan Saliba, denies stealing the song and questioned why Salameh waited so long to file his suit.
Saliba said that he never heard of Muhammad Tharwat or Jamal Salameh before the suit, and also never heard of the song he is accused of stealing.
Saliba said that he is the only one responsible, not Haifa, since he composed the song. Saliba believes if there is a case then it should be referred to him only.
Saliba suggested that Salameh only filed the suit to get back into the spotlight and to try and make money.
Saliba also produced Lebanese singer Elissa’s album “Badi Doob” (I want to melt).
