Prominent Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmi has turned down an offer for one million Egyptian pounds to star in a new commercial for a tobacco company.
The actor explained that he refuses to take part in such commercials, stressing that he would never encourage smoking, or promote such a lethal habit.
Recently, Hussein requested that an Egyptian production company try and reach an agreement with Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram to take the leading role in his upcoming film.
Hussein asserted that she is best suited for the role, and that his nomination of Nancy is not merely due to her looks, but her proven acting abilities demonstrated in her music videos.
Hussein, a UN Goodwill Ambassador, sent a special request to United Nations Secretary General Kofi Anan to ask his permission to make a reference to him in his new television drama “Al Sharid” (The deserter).
The drama, written by Mahdi Yousif and directed by Mohammad Abdul Aziz, costars Sawsan Murad and Syrian actress Jumana Murad, and will be filmed at the ‘Media Production City.’
