Egyptian censors have banned the screening of the film Esaaf 55 (Rescue 55), directed by Majdi Al Hawari, because he allegedly applied to direct the movie under someone else’s name.
The ban was put in place at the request of the Egyptian Cinema Association.
The new chief of the association, Mamdouh Al Laithi, told AFP that “the association has made this request because Hawari applied to direct the film under the name of another director, Sami Rafe’, which violates the regulations of the association.”
“A committee consisting of a number of senior Egyptian directors will see the film upon the request of Hawari, and will recommend the necessary actions to correct any violations of the concerned regulations,” added the chief.
Costarring in the film are Hawari’s wife Ghada Adel, Ahmed Hilmi and Mohammed Saad - Albawaba.com
