Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi has filed a lawsuit against a Lebanese magazine for publishing a caricature about her, which she found to be very insulting and demeaning. Haifa stressed that the magazine has been using her as a target for continuous ridicule disrespecting her persona and feelings.
Haifa noted that the caricature that was drawn of her made her look deformed and very ugly a matter that really made her explode in anger. The singer added that the same magazine had recently published a poll for best joke about her a matter that led to her take legal actions against them. According to the London based daily, Al Quds Al Arabi, Haifa stressed that she is not against having caricatures drawn of her, as long as it does not exceed the line of respect.
The singer added that her lawyer has gathered all the insulting articles published by the magazine to present them in court. Haifa stressed that she is free to make jokes about herself, but will not sit around and do nothing when others begin making insulting and hurtful jokes about her that only aim at ruining her image.
On a different note, a poll done by the Sound of Music radio station in Lebanon, showed that Haifa’s popularity well exceeds that of prominent singer Ragheb Alama. The voting lasted for a period of one-week for Haifa’s song “Ragab” and Ragheb’s song “Ulli Ishta’tilak” on the station’s program “Head to Head”, in which listeners cast their votes by calling in, SMS messages or through the station’s website.
The end result of the poll showed Haifa’s victory receiving 1075 votes, whereas Ragheb only received 267. Haifa expressed her honor at such a victory and never imagined that the song “Ragab” would achieve so much success. Haifa revealed that once she released her latest album and realized that everyone like the song she immediately filmed it in the form of a music video.
