On June 15 and 16, the Rahbani cousins, Ziad and Ghassan, will give an open-air concert at the Mont La Salle school in Beirut. Though they’ve been discussing a joint concert for years, this is the first time ever they will be united on stage, according to thisiscyberia.com.
Coming from a jazzy/oriental background, Ziad will play the piano and conduct the orchestra of nine European and four Lebanese musicians, while rocker Ghassan will do the singing. The repertoire will be a mix of both Ziad’s and Ghassan’s work.
Though it’s known that the different musical branches of the Rahbani family don’t get along very well, the concert has “no political implications,” according to Ghassan Rahbani.
“It’s all about freedom of expression and the pleasure of making music,” he said.
Ghassan has released 12 albums so far, and is famous for his live performances. He also created the Four Cats. Apart from that, Ghassan wrote, directed and produced Hannibal, a play that was performed on stage in Lebanon for some 10 months.
Newspaper Sharq Al Awsat reported that even Ziad’s mother Fairouz would appear on stage, but Ghassan just laughed when confronted with the rumor – Albawaba.com
