Syrian/Lebanese singer George Wassouf has just completed placing final touches on his upcoming album, which he hopes to release in the very near future. The singer has worked extensively on making sure that all the details of the album are complete and had been dividing his time recording the music and his voice at the recording studio.
The new album, like his previous ones, features five songs only, four of which composed by Egyptian composer Ahmad Al Ataf and one by Riad Al Bundik. The song that is composed by Riad is a remix of one of George’s old songs, which he had sung over ten years ago. The song “Sahirt Al Lail” (I Stayed Up All Night) was never included in any of George’s previous albums. The song is considered a long one and lasts about 17 minutes.
The singer is scheduled to hold a number of concerts at his nightclub “Wassouf Club”, as well as concerts in Syria and a number of other Arab countries. Wassouf has cancelled two scheduled concerts in Jordan, which he was to hold on the first days of the Muslim holiday Eid Al Adha, due to a sudden failure in his health. The singer was struck with a severe failure in his health and was immediately taken to hospital in Beirut.
Wassouf has finally been granted a Lebanese citizenship after residing in Lebanon for over 20 years. Even though many people think that George is of Lebanese origin, he is in fact Syrian and was born in one of its suburbs.
George received the Lebanese citizenship along with his three sons, Wadee', Hatem, and George Jr. The singer had first arrived to Lebanon at the age of 15 and has lived there ever since. He stressed that he considers Lebanon his home since it's where he first started his music career, and his family life.
Recently, George announced that he will be renewing his contract with the Music Production Company Rotana, going back on a recent decision he had made refusing the idea completely. George had held a meeting with one of Rotana’s top administration officials to negotiate the prospect of renewing his contract, and resolving any minor complications or loose ends.
After extensive negotiations, Wassouf finally agreed to renew his contract for another three years. The singer had demanded a number of alterations to be made to the contract, to ensure that all his conditions are met and he is given his deserved share. A press conference took place October 4, 2003 at Virgin Mega Stores in Lebanon, where the renewal was announced in addition to details regarding the new contract. –Albawaba.com
