Not everyone is cheering the four Grammy nominations picked up by controversial rapper Eminem on Wednesday January 3, according to Agence France Presse.
Eminem, whose angry lyrics attack gays, lesbians and women, received four Grammy nods, including album of the year, best rap album and best rap solo performance from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
But the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) sees a "disturbing" trend in the recognition accorded to the rapper.
"What this says is a little scary," said GLAAD spokesman Scott Seomin.
"It's about murdering, stabbing, slitting throats and putting women in the trunks of cars," he said. "It's about violence."
Many critics have hailed the 12,000-member Academy's decision to recognize Eminem, Dr Dre, and other younger, non-mainstream artists, who have traditionally been shut out of the US music industry's top awards.
Eminem has refused requests to meet with GLAAD representatives to discuss their concerns, he added.
"The latest rumors we heard was that he was writing a song about GLAAD," Seomin said.
"Fame and success are fleeting. I hope when he matures as a man he will be able to look back and realize damage he's done."
GLAAD plans to meet with the National Organization for Women before deciding whether to hold more protests against the singer, he said. – AFP.
