Egyptian actress Gala Fahmi has suddenly decided to stay away from acting until further notice in order to “reorganize herself” after distribution companies allegedly conspired to screw up her latest film, Gala Gala.

Fahmi said that psychological trauma resulting from the deliberate undermining of her latest film by distribution companies had forced her into temporary hibernation.

Her decision has put director Hassan Bashir in a predicament, since he nominated her to star in part two of the series Ya Rijal Al A’lam Ittahidu (World Men, Unite). This is particularly true since Esaad Younes, star of the part one, has already sent her regrets.

Before her vow, Gala had agreed to take the lead role and shooting was set to begin in early August.

Bashir told the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat that he had nominated Hala Fakher as a substitute star and given her a few days to gear up for the role.

Fakher has to be ready for shooting before male lead Hussein Fahmi gets busy preparing for the Cairo International Film Festival.

Fahmi’s decision has also confused other directors, including Essam Al Shammaa, who had chosen her to star in his new film Al Shater Hassan (Clever Hassan), scripted by Majedah Kheirallah, along with young actor Fathi Abdel Wahab.

Furthermore, the actress’ move has also resulted in the postponement of the series Al Malikah Faridah (Queen Faridah), written by Abul Ula Al Salamoni. The director, Ahmed Saqer, had nominated Fahmi for a leading role - Albawaba.com
