The head of the Cairo International Film Festival, Hussein Fahmi, Expressed his fears of weak foreign participation in the festival in the aftermath of the recent attacks in the USA.
Fahmi announced in a press conference in Cairo Thursday that a special program would be presented on the 25th anniversary of the festival which will be held between October 9-20.
35 countries will participate in the festival with 121 films including four Arab countries.
The Arab countries will participate in the festival official contest with one single film.
Egypt will participate with the film Muthakkarat Murahikah, (Adolescent Memoirs) directed by Enas Al Degheidi while Morocco will participate with Taif Nizar directed by Kamal Kamal.
Algeria will participate with Inshallah Yawm al Ahad (If God Wills On Sunday) directed by Yamina Bin Jiji and Syria will participate with one of two films which will be wrapped up at the festival launch, Qamaran Wa Zaytounah directed by Abdellatif Abdel Hamid or Zahr Al Romman (Pomegranate Flowers) directed by Ghassan Shmeit.
Fahmi reiterated his unlimited and unconditional support for the Palestinian Intifada and people whatever the circumstances might be adding that “he would not allow Israel to participate in Cairo Film Festival whether they submit an application or not.” -- Albawaba.com
