Long meetings between prominent writer Mohammed Jalal, scenarist Abul Ola al Salamoni and director Ahmed Khader are being convened to gear up for the new Egyptian TV series Zahrat al Yasmin (Jasmine Rose).
The series is about the life of Egyptian and Arab immigrants, particularly in the US. It depicts the immigration journey and the Egyptian struggle to prove themselves abroad, confronting Mafia gangs and Zionist and Israeli extremism.
“The series events take place in al Munira neighborhood which I wrote about in my novels Qahwet al Mawardi and al Munira Days, and in California/US which inspired me after I has visited it several times, the story of my novel Love in California on which the series based,” the writer Mohammed Jalal told the daily al Gomhuria.
He added, “although I wrote it before September 11, I anticipated, through the novel, indirectly, the suffering of the Egyptian and Arab-Americans after the attacks in the US.”
On his behalf, director Ahmed Khader told the daily, “This is the fourth series in which I have cooperated with the al Salamoni after Qissat Madinah (City Story) and Hikaya Bila Bidaya Wala Nihaya (Story Without Beginning or End).”
The director added that the series “is good and needs time and great efforts to prepare for properly.”
Khader suggested that there were many actors nominated to play leading roles in the series, including Athar al Hakim, Farouq al Fishawi, Ezzat Abu Of, Dalia Mustafa, Abdulla Saad and others.
Khader’s latest series was Hawari Wa Qusour (Apostles and Palaces) in which more than 180 actors and actresses appear including Nabil al Hilfawi, Fardos Abdel Hamid, Rania Farid Shawqi and Yousef Shaaban. The series was screened during last Ramadan - Albawaba.com
