The golden jubilee celebrations of the Egyptian July revolution has provided a golden opportunity for the different generations to enjoy again the patriotic songs which have accompanied the revolution.
These songs have left their impacts on the Arab and Egyptian conscience and will remain an integral part of the Arab music and singing heritage, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The late Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez who was described as “the revolution singer” occupies a prominent status in the records of those who sang for the resolution throughout its different stages and the events it witnessed.
Hafez who entered the spotlight since July 23 revolution associated with the multi talent artist Salah Jahin and composer Kamal al Tawil to form a trio who performed well a number of songs including Ehna al Shaab (we are the people) and others.
The renowned singer who was called al Andalib al Asmar (the black nightingale) and who died more than 25 years ago, ignited the feelings of the fans with his voice to the extent that the western media described him at that time as one of the secret weapons used to spread the revolution.
However, Hafez was not alone on the art arena as he was preceded by Umm Kulthoum and musician Mohammed Abdel Wahab, who witnessed the royal era. Umm Kulthoum participated to a big extent in singing patriotic songs which accompanied the revolution in all its stages and circumstances.
Although tens of years have lapsed since the revolution and its songs but the generations that witnessed these developments which echoed throughout the Arab world long for these songs which have shaped the conscience despite the differences in the existing historical circumstances -- Albawaba.com
