The Egyptian belly-dancer Dina was not at all amused by the rumors of her readiness to participate in a rally to demand the right to shake it. She was allegedly invited by fellow belly dancer Julia Shanin to demonstrate infront of the Egyptian Presidential palace in their full belly-dancing regalia, in an upcoming organised march.
The actual march was reportedly to be held in protest of the shuttering of many bars and entertainment venues on - aptly-named - Al Haram Street in Cairo's party district. The sultry Dinab was quick to point out that in her defense she did not even know a dancer by the name of Julia, so why then would she accept an invitation from the stranger in the first place.
Dina, known for her exotic dances, went on to explain that she wouldn't be caught dead even near such a march since she is far too refined to stoop to such antics. For her, appearing near naked to protest the closing down of questionable places of entertainment is not at all part of her classy lifestyle. She described the defamatory rumors as little more than media hype.
When Dina was asked about Julia's campaign to create a union for belly dancers, she sarcastically replied, ”God be with her and good luck to her!” She continued by saying,
“The media has written about me and my colleague Fifi Abdo in the past, claiming that we have also demanded a union. We have never asserted such a demand, but I do nevertheless hope that some sort of guild is created for other belly dancers, so that they may be protected from harm.”
