Prominent Egyptian legend Younis Al Shalabi has passed way after a long struggle with diabetes. Earlier this month the actor was admitted to the Contractors Hospital after he fell into a coma.

Younis’s struggle with diabetes began eight years ago, at the time where he was performing his latest plays in different Arab countries. At the time the actor experienced a brain stroke during the performance of one of the plays and was taken immediately to hospital to get the needed medical care.

When the incident happened he was at one of the Gulf countries and a number of wealthy individuals offered to finance his medical treatment, but the actor insisted he wanted to return to Egypt to continue his treatment.

Ever since, Younis’s health kept deteriorating and he experienced several strokes and had complicated operations done, mainly in the brain and his legs, which affected his mobility. The actor also had a very complicated heart surgery done, which lead him to go into a state of extreme depression due to the fact that he became practically bankrupt with all his money going to hospital expenses.

What added to his depression was the fact that most of his close friends from the entertainment world had in more ways than one drifted away.

Shalabi had gotten his drama degree at the Cairo Higher College for Theater Arts and became one of the most loved and known comedian actors, especially in the seventies.

He had caught the attention of viewers around the Arab world in his play “Madrast Al Mushaghibeen” (Scoundrels School) alongside Egyptian legends Adel Imam, Saeed Saleh, and the late Ahmad Zaki.

Shalabi’s journey is full of success in the theater, cinema and small screen. His last appearance on the big screen was as a guest of honor in the film “Ameer Al Thalam” (Prince of Darkness) starring Adel Imam. And the last television appearance was in the drama “Ahlam Mu’ajalah” (Postponed Dreams), where he starred alongside Saeed Saleh, Abdallah Farghali, and Laila Taher. The drama was shown during the Ramadan season.
