An ad hoc committee formed by the chief censor, Madkour Thabet, has given the green light for screening of the film Muwaten, Mhkhber and Harami (Citizen, Detective and Thief) - without taking out controversial scenes, according to the daily Al Akhbar.
Earlier, censors raised reservations on some hot scenes in the film and demanded their omission, but writer/director Daoud Abdel Sayyed protested and appealed the decision at Thabet office.
In response, the chief censor decided to form a committee including a number of cinema experts to give the final say over the dispute.
After screening the film in the presence of the censors, the committee agreed unanimously to keep all the scenes as is.
For his part, Abdel Sayyed agreed to omit a sentence uttered by one of the characters that might be misinterpreted by some Egyptian Copts.
There was not only good news for Sayyed regarding Muwaten, Mukhber Wa Harami. He also received an invitation to participate in the Damascus Film Festival.
He agreed, but turned down another invitation to take part in the Cairo Festival in October. Al Akhbar did not say why.
