A Dubai court ordered the Syrian singer Asala Nasri to pay a businessman with investments in production a sum of half a million Emirati dirhams for terminating a contract between the two years ago.
Asala had to pay for all expenses and a thousand dirhams in legal fees.
The conditions of the contract were that the businessman would pay for the production of 20 albums for Asala and he would pay her US$5,000 for every album produced. He was also required to produce two video clips for every album.
Other conditions in the contract were that Asala was prohibited from signing a contract with another party and from producing of her own albums. She was not permitted to hold private or public concerts, or to appear in any advertisement with out prior agreement.
Asala did not meet the conditions of the contract. She has hosted a number of concerts and in 2005 she signed a new contract with two other production companies to produce three albums.
