Egyptian actress, Basma, has revealed that she was assaulted three times while she took part in the recent protests in Egypt's infamous Tahrir Square, this week.
Like many other women at the demonstrations, Basma was sexually harassed but unlike most other ladies present, she decided to fight back, hitting one of the men involved and making her story public later.
The young starlet was interviewed on TV network, CBC, this week and told journalist, Lamis al Hadidi, that she was happy with the way she acted. The actress added that she thought the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt had sent men into the demonstrations to harass women so that they would be put off the idea of protesting.
Hundreds of Egyptian women marched through downtown Cairo on Wednesday to protest against sexual harassment at the demonstrations. But not everyone is such a staunch supporter of the idea of women on the streets and owner of the 'Al Ummah' TV channel, Abu Islam, attacked Basma for going to the protests.
Abu Islam said Basma had "degraded" herself by sitting on the shoulders of strange men during the demonstrations and that her behavior was insulting to her husband.
But the young actress said nothing will put her off going to protest her rights and she thinks other Egyptian women should feel the same.
