The Egyptian film Ghurfa Lilegar (Room for Rent) has been nominated to participate in the official contest of Love Film Festival which was opened in the Belgium city of Mons last Friday and will continue until February 22, 2002.

“The Egyptian film is banned in Egypt. This in addition to other reasons was the reason behind selecting it to compete in the official contest,” the festival head, Andria Ceotrik told the London based Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat.

Responding to a question about the Egyptian stars participating in the festival he added, “so far Nabila Ebaid, Nour al Sherif and Hussein Fahmi have confirmed that they would attend. We have extended an invitation to the director Yousef Shahin to participate in the festival with his film Sukoot Hansawwar (Quiet, We will Shoot) but we have received no confirmation of his presence yet.”

Egypt has been nominated to be the festival’s guest of honor as a number of old and new Egyptian films will be screened including Ahibbak Ya Hasan (I love You Hasan) starring Nae’mah A’kef and directed by Hussein Fouzi, Ayyam al Ghadab (Days of Anger) starring Noor al Sherif and directed by Munir Radi. This is in addition to al Ashiqan (Two Lovers) directed by Noor al Sherif in his direction debut.”

The films Etfarrag Ya Salam costarring Hanan al Tork, Maged al Masri and Hani Ramzi and directed by Mohammed Kamel al Qalyoubi, Emraah Wahidah La Takfi (One Woman is not Enough) directed by Enas al Deghaidi and costarring Ahmed Zaki, Yusra and Fifi Abdo, the film Entisar al Shabab (Youth’s Victory) directed by Ahmed Bader Khan and costarring Farid al Atrash and Asmahan, Salameh Fi Khair (Salameh is OK) directed by Niazi Mustafa and starring Naguib al Rihani and the film Zawgati Wa al Kalb (My Wife and the Dog) directed by Said Marzouq and starring Mahmoud Morci will also be screened.
