Prominent Egyptian actress Athar Al Hakim was outraged when the producer and director of her latest television series “Kanadeel Baher” (The Lighthouse) filmed the final scenes of the drama without her knowledge and gave her role to another actor.

She has subsequently filed a lawsuit against them.

According to the Egyptian based daily, Al Ahram, disputes had arisen between Athar and the director over the script. Athar stressed that she accepted the leading role in the drama on the condition that she review the screenplay before filming. The review includes studying the characters, the plot, and the details of the drama, which is a basic routine followed in production, Athar insists.

Director Ahmad Khader argued that the responsibility of revising the script was his, in order to match the theme of the story.

In the end Khader overlooked her suggestions, and the script was different from what Athar expected, leading her to withdraw.

The actress demands that they stop filming until the court determines a verdict. Athar also filed a complaint with the Actors and Cinema association, in addition to the Media Production City claiming that her rights have been violated.

On a different note, director Hani Ishmael began filming the first scenes of the drama “Imra’a Waheeda” (A Lonely Woman) starring Athar. She plays the role of an ideal lawyer who strives to defend the rights of victims and the innocent.

Hani revealed that he has begun filming the outdoor scenes of the drama in the neighborhood of Al Dokki until one of the studios at the ‘Media Production City’ is available.
