The Head of the Syrian Musician Union, Sabah Obeid, denied rumors that he had released a decision to ban Syrian singer Asalah Nasri from singing in Syria. Sabah stated that the rumor was created by individuals whose only goal is to distort the image of the Union and its decision to ban a number of female singers from performing in Syria.
According to the London based Elaph, it was revealed that the Union intends on presenting Asalah with an honorary membership to the Union, which she is not a member of.
Recently the singer’s fan club had launched a campaign demanding that the Union to take back their alleged decision of banning her and prosecute whoever was behind such a decision.
Asalah had decided to travel to Syria to investigate the matter herself and see if such a decision to ban her was ever made, especially since she never received any official letter stating so.
The singer’s fan club stated that Obeid had a personal vendetta against Asalah since she publicly denounced his decision to ban a number of Lebanese singers on the grounds that they are considered to be indecent and not suitable to sing in Syria. Asalah had said that such a decision is not acceptable and that she opposed it.
Obeid had released a decision to ban a number of singers, like Haifa Wahbi, Elissa, Ruby, and more, stating that these singers use provocative means to gain popularity and accused them of polluting the music industry.
