Arab Cinema Fest to open with ‘Ticket to Jerusalem’

Shows of the 6th Arab cinema festival which is organized once every two weeks by the Arab World Institute in Paris under the supervision of Majedah Wasef, will kick off next week. 

In addition to the institute’s hall, the shows will be performed in three other halls in Paris and a fourth one in the suburbs in addition to a fifth one in south Marcel, according to the London based Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat. 

The session’s program includes about 100 narrative and documentary, short and long films to be screened at three sections of the festival. The first is the official contest, the second section will be about Palestine over the past 10 years and the third section about honoring the late actress Suad Hosni. 

The narrative film contest jury is comprised of the actor and director Noor al Sherif as head and others as members. These include Sandra bin Hamer, the head of the International Film Festival in Holland, French director Phillip Poukan, Tunisian director Naser Khamir and the Lebanese actress and writer Yasmin Khallat. This is in addition to New York Festival head, Richard Bin and the French Egyptian writer Robert Solier. 

The documentary film contest jury is comprised of the Algerian producer and critic Ahmed Bajjawi as head. Members of this jury include the Belgian director and producer Jan Jack Andrian, Antoinette A’zariyyeh from Syria, Bahraini director Bassam al Thawawi and the French director Christov Rosier. 

With a large Arab and European audiences which have long been waiting for this cinema event and with the participation of more than 100 actors, directors and journalists the sixth session of the festival will begin with the film Tathkira Ila al Quds (ticket to Jerusalem) by the Palestinian director Rashid Mashharawi. The film is joint Palestinian and Holland production. 

The concluding film which will follow the prizes’ hand out is Khalli Balak Min Zuzu (beware of Zuzu) directed by Hasan al Imam in 1972. Screening of the film will come within the framework of the films to be screened in commemorating the anniversary of the late Egyptian actress Suad Hosni -- Albawaba.com
