Egyptian singer Angham has abruptly backed out of her first film, Sahar Allayali (Staying Up at Night) and apologized to director Hani Khalifa, seven months after signing the film contract.

Angham told the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat that her withdrawal had not been due to specific technical problems, but rather result from the long delay in shooting the film. The project had forced her to drop other work to be able to allocate all her time to preparing for her first “audition.”

“I apologized three days before the shooting began. I don’t care whether the shooting begins now or tomorrow. All that concerns me is my new album, on which I am now putting the finishing touches,” said Angham.

Meanwhile, the director has had to make some changes to save face, such as asking star Muna Zaki to fill in for Angham and asking star Hanan Turk to fill in for Muna Zaki.

“I wish Angahm had costarred in the film, and the delay in shooting was for reasons beyond our control,” the harried director said.

Khalifa confirmed that shooting had actually begun and that all the artists involved were keen on making the film appear in its best form.

The film belongs to the social drama genre and depicts the relationships and problems faced by sons after marriage – Albawaba.com
