In a joint meeting between the head of the Cinema Writers and Critics Society, Mr. Mamdouh al Laithi, and Mustafa Muharram, the head of the Alexandria Film Festival, the two has decided to hand out 12 prizes at this year’s festival for Best Work and the Official Contest.
The Cinema Writers and Critics society, which is also the organizing body of the festival, has announced that films from nine countries will compete for 11 prizes allocated for the Official Contest.
The films include Turkish “Away from Home”; Greek “Bubble”; Spanish “My Love”; “Sundouk al Dunia” (Life Box) from Syria; “Lamma Hakeit Mariam” (When I Spoke to Mariam) from Lebanon; “Nagham” (Melody) from Tunisia; I am Impatient from Morocco; “More Glorious” from France; and “Khalli el Dimagh Sahi” (Be Vigilant) from Egypt.
As for the Best Work prize that goes to the film’s director, five films will compete, including “Khalf Jabal Tareq” (Behind Gibraltar) from Morocco; “Nine” from Turkey; “Fatma” from Tunisia; “Save Me” from Greece and “Sundouk al Dunia” (Life Box) from Syria.
On the sidelines of the festival, Iraq will screen four films through the panorama “Egyptians in the Iraqi Cinema” in addition to the Egyptian, Greek and Dutch panorama. - Albawaba.com
