Arab world says bye to Iraqi star-singer

A number of Iraqi news websites have posted the tragic news of the untimely death of Iraqi prominent singer Ala Saed. Ala passed away at the Kennedy Hospital at the ripe young age of 49, after suffering a cocktail condition of Hepatitis C, blood pressure and diabetes.


The late singer had been receiving treatment at the Erbil hospital for two weeks, but took his final breath in Baghdad his place of birth and upbringing.


Ala was considered one of the most renowned Iraqi singers and his song “Al Burtuqalah” (The Orange) was a winner around the Arab world, despite some level of criticism regarding over its content. The song paved the way for Ala’s popularity, and was the buzzword of the Iraqi song-street for many years.


He was known for his deep but mellow voice.
