Kuwaiti singer Abdualla Al Ruweished earned the title of Best Arab Singer for his tune Akher Habeb (The Last Lover) at the Arab Video Festival held in Alexandria this week, according to the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.
UAE singer Ahlam took top honors for Best Female Arab Artist for her song La Tesadegona (Don’t Believe Him) at the event.
The festival honored many stars, including Egyptian artist Sameer Sabri and the late Sayyed Darwish and Suad Hosni.
The festival’s closing ceremony included a documentary film of the late Egyptian actress Hosni, where the audience stood for a minute of silence.
The festival’s panel of judges presented an award to the Algerian artist Warda for her song Ana Min Liya Gherak (Who Else Do I Have Than You?).
Ehab Tawfiq won Best Egyptian Artist for his song Tetraja, (Pleading), while Maha Al Badri won Best Female Egyptian Artist for her song Betheb Min (Who Do You Love?).
Songs about the Intifada also netted appreciation awards, with Nessrin Zindah winning for the song Ana Bent Felstin (Daughter of Palestine), and Wael Al Yazji earning recognition for his song Al Thaer Ya Quds (Avenge Jerusalem).
Lebanese singer Ragheb Alama won Best Concept for his song Saharoni Al Leil (Kept Me Awake) while Egyptian super star Amr Diab won Best Video and UAE singer Ahlam won Best Cinematography for her video.
The seventh International Song Festival will take place on August 20 with 12 Arab countries taking part along with 18 foreign nations – Albawaba.com
