Director Mohammed Al Najjar has paid $200,000 to a team of special effects experts from London to help him shoot a half-minute scene in the film Rihlet Hobb (Love Journey).
The film was written by Ahmed Al Beih and costars Mohammed Fuad, Ahmed Hilmi and the new actress Mahitab.
The incredibly expensive scene is a car chase with Fuad and Ahmed Said Abdel Ghani. The shooting of the scene took seven full days.
“The scene was shot using six cameras, in addition to the helicopter-borne camera, Heliocam. Two cars were totally destroyed after they were flipped over from a height of 30 meters,” Najjar told the Cairo-based daily Akhbar Al Yawm.
“This scene could have been shot at a cost of no more than 60,000 pounds, but I preferred to have it shot at any cost. When the producer refused, I gave up half of my pay so this scene would look like international scenes, Fuad said.
Fuad added that the film’s last scenes, currently being filmed in Sharm Al Sheikh, include romantic interludes with him and Mahitab, in addition to a song in the tourist resort - Albawaba.com
