The play Zabibah Wa al Malek (Zabibah and the King) which is based on a novel believed to have been written by the Iraqi president Saddam Hussein will be staged at the National Theater in Baghdad on January 17.
The play will be implemented by a committee comprising of five Iraqi directors headed by Sami Abdel Hamid. The play which was scripted by the Palestinian poet Adeeb Naser, costars Sami Kuftan, Jawad al Shukraji, Fatma al Rebaie’i, Suha Salem, Karim Mohsen and others.
However, the timing of the play portrayal coincides with the 11th anniversary of the second Gulf War on January 17, 1991 which is also the day on which Zabibah, the novel hero, was killed.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi TV is embarking on adapting the novel Zabibah Wa al Malek into an immense TV series written by Mzahem al Bayati and to be produced by the Iraqi satellite channel.
The novel released last year was greatly publicized more than any other Iraqi novel. It depicts the king, as a person loved by his people. He loves Zabibah and faces conspiracies by other kings who envy him.
