ALBAWABA Authorities in Tartus are intensifying their search efforts for a high school student who went missing after a group exploration of the Ein Al-Dalbah cave. The student, identified as Qais Al-Zarzour, was part of a group of nine friends who ventured into the cave on Monday morning.
According to reports from Zarzour's friends, they all exited the cave after their exploration except for Zarzour himself, who chose to return to the cave alone and has not been seen since.
Despite extensive search operations conducted by rescue teams and locals within the Ein Al-Dalbah cave, no trace of Zarzour has been found. Civil defense authorities have announced the conclusion of their search operations in the cave, while additional teams continue to scour the area in hopes of locating the missing student.
Brigadier Mondher Al-Ibrahim, the Director of Civil Defense in Tartus, confirmed that the cave has been thoroughly searched multiple times without any sign of Zarzour.
The search efforts were prompted by a report of Zarzour's disappearance on Monday, leading rescue teams to deploy specialized equipment and oxygen into the cave. Despite these efforts, no progress has been made in locating the missing student.
Al-Ibrahim highlighted the challenging terrain of the cave, situated on a rocky cliff and accessible only by stairs. Surrounding the cave are olive groves, trees, and the Dalbah River, adding complexity to the search operation.
The father of the missing student has issued a plea for assistance, noting that his son, aside from weak eyesight, does not have any other health issues. He recounted that Zarzour had joined his friends on a trip to the cave, but returned alone and has not been seen since.
