They said she had been stuck in there 'for six days', waiting for someone to come and rescue her.

Police said she was very weak and seriously dehydrated - but still alive.

It is unclear if the toilet was fitted with a sink and how she managed to survive.

Local media report the room was 'cramped'.

Fireman were called because she was in a weakened state and was very dehydrated and needed to be carried out of the building.

The octogenarian was taken to Dinan hospital by the firefighters.

She is now recovering from her ordeal.

The rescue took place on September 10 and the police shared the story on social media on September 16.

The police said their intervention had been 'providence.'
