Speaker of Iran's Majlis (parliament) Ali Larijani has called the U.S'. accusations over Iran's alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States "immature."
Larijani said the United States has "acted immaturely in its latest childish game against Iran," Xinhua quoted the state IRIB TV website report, as saying.
U.S. authorities said on Tuesday that two men were charged in the country for alleged participation in a plot to murder the Saudi ambassador to the United States.
Manssor Arbabsayar, a 56-year-old U.S. citizen holding both Iranian and U.S. passports, and another Iranian citizen, Gholam Shakuri, were charged with sponsoring and promoting terrorist activities abroad, the U.S. Justice Department said in a statement.
However, Larijani called it aUS strategy to baselessly blame Iran to hide its internal problems.
"The U.S. is to hide its internal problems by putting forward baseless claims through massive media coverage against Iran," he said, adding that Washington wants to create crises for regional states in order to conceal its new economic problems.
Iran and Saudi Arabia enjoy normal relations, said the Iranian speaker.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast on Tuesday rejected the U.S. accusations, saying that the U.S. accusations are "incorrect" and "prefabricated scenario." He further said that such kinds of allegations are "ridiculous shows" that aim at creating discord among the regional countries.
