A man who was run over twice by a car and left for dead appealed yesterday for justice and help.
Edgar Inovio, 41, a Filipino salesman, fractured his skull, scraped the right side of his face, and broke a tooth, after reportedly being hit by a car twice at 1am on November 3 in Al Jafiliya in a hit-and-run accident.
“Please surrender yourself to the authorities and own up to what you did,” Inovio urged the driver responsible for his condition, who escaped from the scene.
“Please have the decency to at least help me deal with this trouble you have put me in.”
Inovio, a salesman at a supermarket, was on his way home from work when the incident happened.
“I was walking along the pavement when suddenly a car coming from behind me skidded onto the pavement and hit me from behind,” Inovio told Gulf News while lying on his hospital bed.
He said he was thrown some distance by the force of the impact and hit his head on the road when he landed.
As his head bled profusely and he struggled to get up, he saw the car coming towards him again and thought that the driver would stop to help him. But the car hit him again.
“I thought the driver was going to help me when I saw the car head in my direction. But he just went straight ahead and hit me for the second time. That was when I scraped my face on the road,” Inovio said.
“Next thing I knew, I was at Rashid Hospital being prepared for an operation.”
Inovio said he was lucky that he did not break any other bones in his body although his whole back and legs were bruised. He said he has not been able to sleep for the past five nights because of pain. Thankfully, the doctors have ruled out any internal injury.
“I feel like my head is spinning. I can’t focus; I easily feel dizzy. I could feel some twitching in my head, in the area where the doctors stitched it,” he said. “The pain just won’t go away.”
The sole breadwinner in his family, Inovio said the doctors had asked him to rest for two weeks. But since he cannot work, he said he would not have money even for his daily expenses and medication, leave alone support his family back home.
He reported the accident to police who are investigating the matter, but so far they have not been able to trace the car because Inovio was not able to spot its plate number.
