Barbara Walters, news anchor for the ABC network, has been caught trying to sneak president Assad’s aide into Columbia University.

The TV personality, whose emails were leaked to the Telegraph newspaper last night, was busted trying to pull strings to get Sheherazad Jaafari into Columbia and on an internship with CNN host Piers Morgan.

Walters had interviewed the Syrian dictator earlier in the week, a move facilitated by Jaafari. After the meeting, she sent emails to a Professor at Columbia to recommend her:

“She is only 21 but had his [Assad’s] ear and his confidence. I have recommended her as an intern to your son for Piers Morgan… She is brilliant, beautiful, speaks five languages. Anything you can do to help?”

Meanwhile, president Assad has been accused of killing civilians in his country en masse, including the executions of over 30 children in al Houla.

When the Telegraph confronted Ms. Walters with the leaked emails, she said: “I did offer to mention her to contacts at another media organization and in academia, though she didn’t get a job or into school. In retrospect, I realize that this created a conflict, and I regret that.”

Do you think Walters should have sent those emails? Tell us your thoughts.
