The Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) has said that housing rents are likely to drop in a year or a year-and-a-half. According to The Peninsula, the Chamber has harshly criticised the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA), saying the red tape involved in issuing building permits is largely to blame for the problem.
According to the Chamber's vice-president, Abdul Aziz Al Emadi, while it takes barely two months to construct a house, obtaining the needed municipal clearances can be really time-consuming.
