The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) on Sunday announced that its 2014-15 season will commence on September 18 and will include variety of genres by some of the world’s foremost artistes. Local musicians will perform in ‘A Night of Inshaad’ to celebrate Omani Women’s Day.

The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra will feature in ROHM's annual concert to celebrate the pipe organ. The orchestra will also be accompanying famous oud player and composer Marcel Khalife and the acclaimed Omar Khairat in two concerts.

Dr Nasser bin Hamad al Taee, advisor to the board of directors for education and outreach, ROHM said, “We are going to have an interactive children's opera performance which will be presented for the first time in the region with the participation of hundreds of Omani students in an educational, recreational, and creative environment. This is something we did last week with the percussion events where over 550 students got to play musical instruments with our visiting artistes in a thrilling dialogue.”

He added, “All family and educational shows will continue as well as the daily public tours, and the weekly tours offered to students. During the summer and the coming academic year, ROHM will continue the efforts it started last summer, offering internships for college and high school students to help them gain hands-on experience as early as possible and to introduce them to basic technical, artistic, and administrative aspects involved in our activities.”

Professor Dr Issam el Mallah, advisor to the board of directors for programming and events said that 850 musicians from military bands from different countries will play on the Military Day.

“ROHM’s surprises this season will include performances that will be presented by renowned munshid Mishari al Affasi,” he said.

H H Sayyid Kamil bin Fahad bin Mahmoud al Said, ROHM board member said, “The mission of ROHM is to serve as a place of learning and dialogue. It is living up to its promise. We opened our doors to daily tours and received a great turnout from the public, we introduced our first ever stage/keyboard presentations which were major successes, and had our first performances where we turned to the public for ‘extras’ and received great participation.”

ROHM’s director general Christina Scheppelmann said, “All of us here at ROHM are proud of everything that we have achieved during the past seasons and the high status we have reached in such a short amount of time. All of this is also reflected in an ongoing increase in ticket sales, which only adds to the good reputation that ROHM has built upon over the years.”
