Ajman Sewerage participates in regional conferences addressing the challenges connected with water and sewerage

In its continuous strive to further improve sewerage services in the Emirate of Ajman; Ajman Sewerage has recently participated in four dedicated regional conferences addressing the challenges connected with water and sewerage. These conferences, held in the emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ajman, included the Gulf Conference for wastewater treatment and reuse, the Regional Conference for Water Technologies, the Arab Water Academy and Ajman’s first Conference on Green Environment and Sustainable Development.
During these conferences Ajman Sewerage shared the knowledge gained from its successful experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of the sewerage system. Engineer Aisha Al Abdooli, technical services manager, highlighted the successes and developments of the sewerage project in Ajman, including its entry into operation, the stages of its completion, and the process of its maintenance since 2008. She stressed that the key factor leading to the success of the project, was the continuous support received from the Government of Ajman. The strong commitment and dedication shown by the Government, allowed among others for the necessary legislation to be passed and implemented. Al Abdooli emphasized that this project is the first of its kind in the region, allowing a major infrastructure project to be realized through a real partnership between a Government and private partners.
Further, Al Abdooli explained that a dedicated team working around the clock, was necessary to develop and feed a large database that facilitates communication with the customers of Ajman Sewerage. By doing so, they could also better understand and address the concerns of customers. Al Abdooli emphasized that this was another fundamental key and provided the project with an invaluable tool to continuously enhance the comfort of and quality of services towards their customers.
In terms of physical volume, the sewerage system, according to Al Abdooli, has a total length of 265 km and serves 230,000 people to date. Approximately 50,000,000 liters wastewater is treated per day.
The project continues to look forward and to anticipate future needs. Only by doing so, Ajman Sewerage can truly improve public health in the Emirate, move towards more environmental sustainability, and even provide an attractive investment environment.
